I saw this over on Forwarding Address: OS X and thought I'd respond. Read more to see what I sent to Mike Knell on my Mac experience.

Basically, I was primarily a Linux user. I figured since I can run on most hardware platforms out there I'd pick something with the nicest hardware (and maybe a different arch to boot) just to do some experimenting. The first thing I did when I got my iBook was repartition to dual-boot a small OSX partition (just to check it out) and a large Linux partition.
I ended up playing with OSX a little bit, and then a little bit more, and then a lot more, and after 3 or 4 months never even booted Linux anymore. Once Jaguar came, it became my primary system.
Since then I've bought a G4, and replaced my iBook with a TiBook 1GHz, and I spend 99% of my time on a mac. I usually even have the tibook up at work (that's what I'm typing this on right now). I use Linux at work and on my firewall, but most of my "play" is on OSX now. I can do all of the geeky UNIX things I did on Linux -- in fact, in the year I've had macs I've gone from a newbie to one of the Fink maintainers, and instead of making yellowdog KDE packages (which I did early on when I got the iBook), I'm now the KDE maintainer on MacOSX. =)
It's good to know that I can do all those things, but when I need to I can still do all the "normal" things people do with Windows computers without all the hassle.
